G7 Future of Seas and Ocean Initiative

Public consultation opens for the Arctic Ocean Regional Alliance (ArORA)

Public consultation opens for the Arctic Ocean Regional Alliance (ArORA)

The Arctic Ocean Regional Alliance (ArORA) Task Team has launched its open community review period for a plan and implementation strategy to strengthen the international coordination of sustained Arctic Ocean observations. The drafting of this proposal is a recognized activity of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) and the G7 FSOI under its Arctic Ocean Observing priority topic. G7 experts continue to engage in the AroRA Task Team and contributed to this document.

Recognizing the need for a coordinated system for ocean observing in the Arctic, the ArORA proposes to serve as a consistent, long-term focal point that bridges gaps between existing programs to ensure that communication, international planning, and coordination are not only maintained, but strengthened. This international structure for coordination across multiple national investments is a first step towards providing a pan-Arctic overview of marine observing activities and serves to foster internationally agreed plans to optimize observing infrastructure and human resources through international collaboration.
