SOCAT 2022 release: Over 40 million surface ocean carbon dioxide measurements available

SOCAT version 2022 main synthesis and gridded products contain quality-controlled in situ surface ocean fCO2 (fugacity of CO2) observations. Thanks to measurements made on ships, moorings, autonomous and drifting surface platforms, the observations cover the global ocean and coastal seas from 1957 to 2021.

A Global Ocean Biogeochemical Observatory Becomes a Reality

Building on the successful Argo network of seafaring temperature and salinity sensors, work is underway to deploy 1,000 floats equipped to study ocean biogeochemistry in greater detail than ever. Beyond serving needs for basic research and science advances, real-time observations from BGC-Argo will also inform a diverse range of stakeholders and facilitate solutions for sustainable ocean management.
